The TeachStreet Community showed up and definitely boogied the night away last Saturday to the latin beats at Century Ballroom. I’d like to thank Alison Cockrill of Century Ballroom for partnering with us to put the event together for the TeachStreet Community. If you had fun on Saturday and loved the salsa lesson, please thank Century Ballroom by leaving them a review/testimonial on TeachStreet.com.
For more photos/videos from the event, please check out our slide show below:
Thanks to everyone who came to the event, I hope you were able to learn something new and was able to showcase your salsa skills on the dance floor later that night. We weren’t able to get the raffle done that night for the “5-Week Salsa Series”, so I’ve done it today. Drumroll please…
…and the winner is: Vernon Sackie!
Congratulations Vernon, hopefully these lessons will help in doing those spins that I’ve always had trouble with.
Hopefully it was a fun event for everyone and I would love to know more about what you, as in the community, would want to learn next! Please send your feedback to me at joseph@teachstreet.com.

You may have heard that recently (just last week), we had our UGC launch.
For those of us in geek land, UGC stands for User Generated Content. This means that all of our great instructors and learners can now write articles to show off their expertise or things they’d like to learn. Plus, for those seeking fame and glory, writing articles will help folks rank higher on TeachStreet search results, appear on our homepage and get their writing indexed by the Powers That Be (Google).
We were happy to learn however, that UGC also stands for something else…
Unusually Great Cupcakes!
Thanks Kim and the folks at Trophy Cupcakes (best cupcakes in Seattle, if you ask me), for giving us the sugar high to push through to the finish line.
Sam & Natala (our fearless and tireless Product Team)
Phil & Daryn (The dudes who wrote the code and got it D-O-N-E!)

We put together a Free Yoga Workshop a couple weeks ago with the help of some of our great teachers on TeachStreet. During the event, students from the community learned a lot about yoga, and got to win some great prizes. One of the contests was to provide feedback for three of our yoga teachers who presented that day, and we would chose one of the students randomly.
Today, I wanted to announce the winner. Drumroll please….
Congratulations, Adam! Have fun putting the yoga mat to good use at your next yoga class. And if you’re looking to learn more about yoga, we have hundreds of yoga teachers and classes — please find a local yoga class near you.
Like the first eduConference, TeachStreet was present at the second eduFire eduConference. This time, we stepped up to the plate and jumped from being a participant to an actual presenter. Thanks to Jon Bischke and Koichi Ko at eduFire for inviting us to present this time, it’s always great to connect with more folks excited about education.
The second eduConference was all about “Turning Teachers into Rockstars!”, which was perfect for us since that’s what we do here at TeachStreet. Side by side with my co-presenter, Kirsten Winkler, we were able to inspire and hopefully spark some thoughts for the attendees. Feeding off of the theme, our presentation was about “Empowering Teachers” by helping our teachers take a hobby into a real business. We touched on some great stories ranging from Jorge Vera’s desire to teach/tutor Spanish for a living, and Marlo M building a crafts business of selling hand-made crafts on Etsy.com and teaching craft making on TeachStreet.com. Hopefully, we’ll be able to have more and more stories to share with the world.
“Empowering Teachers” by TeachStreet
Here’s a snippet of what we talked about:
Be an Expert: Showcase your expertise by getting testimonials and publishing articles.
Market Yourself: Use online tools to connect with students.
Grow your Business: Make a living teaching what you love.
We’re excited of what we’re doing here at TeachStreet, empowering folks to take the next step into their teaching business. The more and more we help these teachers position themselves as experts, build tools for them to run their businesses, and connect them with like minded folks — the more we feel people will be more anxious to chase after their passions.
