New Feature – Student Inquiries

We have just launched a new feature, Student Inquiries, that will help students get connected with more teachers, and get teachers more interested students.

How it works is simple.

When a student sends a direct message to a teacher (either from their profile or from a specific listing), they now have the opportunity to publicize their learning interest to other active teachers/schools with current class listings within the same subject and location. Students only have to fill out their original message, and then fill out an open inquiry form that will be seen by similar teachers/schools. The original message goes straight to the original teacher just like any other message. The information from the open inquiry form goes to similar teachers/schools “Student Inquiry” page. These teachers/schools will be emailed about the opportunity to see the student inquiry and given the option to either:

  • Accept the Inquiry/Lead (selecting this will display the student’s contact information including name, phone and e-mail; and the Inquiry will then be counted as a message lead against one of their classes), or
  • Reject the Inquiry (if it doesn’t look like a good fit).

This is a great tool that helps both students and teachers! Students will get the opportunity to find an active and responsive teacher on TeachStreet that offers a class that meets their interests, and teachers will get more student leads – it’s a win-win for everyone.

I think this is going to be a very powerful feature for both sides.

Thanks, Kirsten — we're pretty excited about it too — we keep trying to lower the barriers between students reaching all relevant teachers — hoping this is another step forward!

The goal is to connect students with more teachers to help them learn something new while driving teachers more opportunities to bring more students into the fold. We believe it's a win for both sides.

    Exactly my words :)

Simple but powerful. I really like it. Can the student decide between online / offline classes, too?

Yeah — if a student is interested in 'German' they can then select if they're interested in Local class (and supply ZIP code) and/or Online classes. Depending on what they select, we mail different teachers. So, if they select Online only, then we'd mail any teachers that have Online German class listings active on the site.

It is an interesting idea. It is definitively worth a try.
