JP Shields is the best and the only guitar instructor I have ever taken lessons from because there could be no one else. JP is an expert guitar player and knows music beyond solely the guitar. Despite his great knowledge of music, JP remains unpretentious and always has a positive attitude toward teaching and applying his teaching to the students individual interests. JP has helped me learn classical guitar by teaching me how to read notes and use proper fingering which are not easy tasks! He has also helped me learn some of my favorite pop songs. If you want to take guitar lessons, I highly suggest John Paul Shields.

JP Shields is the best guitar instructor I have ever had, and I have had many. He is also one of the best music teachers I have ever had, and I have had many of those as well: piano instructors, voice instructors, theory instructors, etc: He is patient, flexible, and he builds an individual program for each student based upon goals, interests and skill level. Most importantly, as i said, he is patient and not pretentious. I have found this is a rare thing among music teachers, but it is the best environment for students to grow creatively and technically. I would recommend JP to anyone interested in learning guitar.

If you are considering taking guitar lessons, or searching for a teacher for your kids, JP Shields is a great one. I have been a student of his for about 18 months. He has that uncanny ability to walk that fine line of teaching where, as a student, you are being pushed just enough to feel challenged and excited about the next thing you are learning, but with a very relaxed, fun attitude. He has taken the time to explain even the most remote musical theory when I've expressed interest, and really takes time choosing music to learn that I like when I need suggestions. His student recitals are a blast! I have also hired him to teach my two daughters, aged 5 & 8 (albeit for skiing), as well as my 11 year old godson (for bass guitar), and they all think he's the greatest, so he definitely has that gift for teaching kids, too. He knows how to make them laugh. If you need a guitar teacher, call him!
