Less is More

This is a guest blog post by Marsha Keller of th’Muse. She’s an old soul who is experiencing humanity with every breath and loving it. She’s also a personal and relationship life coach and music instructor as well as a massage therapist.

Ever feel like you have too much? Too many choices? Too much information? Too many books to read, movies to see, people wanting attention?

Good, Better, Best.

Barry Schwartz, in The Paradox of Choice, says that ‘If people have freedom, then each of us can act on our own”. – then goes on to shoot down his own statement. Instead of making us more free, too many choices make us confused, stressed, and helpless. I wanted to get my granddaughter a baby doll. I just wanted one that she could pretend with. There were none that didn’t wet, cry, move, talk, snore or spit up. None. When I was young, we had no videos, no computers, no cell phones, no ipods, yet hours upon end, we found ways to entertain ourselves, with far fewer choices. Now, all I hear is, “I’m bored, there is nothing to do.” Too much is simply that, too much. You may not find THE best, but you will find something wonderful.

Choose, but narrow the choices down to three. Then choose again.

What will edify; enrich; bring peace or joy or laughter or success. Toss the good choices, appreciate the better ones, but choose the best available.
