TeachStreet Teams Basics

What is a TeachStreet Team?
A Team is a group of experts who agree to work together to achieve a set of goals, such as promoting their skills and classes on TeachStreet, educating the community on their area of expertise or raising awareness. Other goals might include getting to know other experts in your field better, or general networking and skill sharing.
Why should I join Team?
If you’d like to share networking and promotional opportunities, participate more actively in the community or find other like-minded experts on TeachStreet, TeachStreet Teams are probably for you.
How do I begin a Team?
You can find other experts on TeachStreet through search or through the forums. Here’s a post on how to find other experts to join your TeachStreet Team.
What do Team leaders do?
A Team leader keeps a contact list of all members on the Team, spearheads Team events, organizes Team meetings, moderates any private Team discussion, and encourages Team participation and communication. Most importantly, a good Team leader delegates many of these tasks to members of the Team to help run the group smoothly.
What kind of events can my Team plan?
Anything you can imagine! Events that Teams plan should work toward achieving the Team’s broader goals – networking, shop promotion, community building, etc. Some ideas for Team events might include joint events among different areas of expertise to cross promote and share knowledge or staffing a table at a local event to promote your Team and its TeachStreet class listings to potential learners. Teams can also create resources together online, such as blogs or tutorials, to build an audience and promote your skills.
What Team should I join?
You can join a Team based on your areas of expertise (i.e., a Team of Yoga experts or a Team of small business professionals) or a Team based on your physical location (i.e., a Team of experts residing in Brooklyn, NY.) If there isn’t a Team where you live yet, consider starting one, even if you only have a small handful of members at present time – maybe one of your Team goals would be to recruit more neighbors to join TeachStreet!
Can we have members in other cities on our Skill-based Team?
Sure! The Internet makes this completely possible, of course, and Teams with members in different locations are an amazing opportunity to get to know from all over that you have something in common with. Experts can learn a lot from the successes of other experts in different cities.
What do local Teams do?
A local team can hold promote class listings and skills in person at festivals, existing local events, events planned by your Team, etc. They can also put a face with a name (or avatar) and meet in person to hold skill shares, studio tours, etc. They can flyer locally in neighborhoods, coffee shops, art stores. They can also hold plan events with other local groups to attract media attention and send press releases to local press for their activities that are newsworthy.
